Interpretation and response
This fallback rule identifies a potentially significant log message that lacks a more specific classification. Review the full event and report unrecognized legitimate messages so their meaning can be assessed.
An OSSEC/HIDS event records or correlates activity. Blocking depends on the originating application and any separately configured Active Response policy; an alert alone does not prove that an attack was blocked.
Email delivery depends on manager configuration; the current definition does not establish the wiki claim that every 1002 event is always emailed.
Documentation
The following guidance was migrated from the historical wiki and reviewed against the rule definition. Legacy ASL product names and interface instructions refer to the versions documented then.
