Interpretation and response
This event is recorded as “Grsecurity has detected a segmentation fault on the system.” Review the originating log and the affected host or service to determine whether the activity was expected.
An OSSEC/HIDS event records or correlates activity. Blocking depends on the originating application and any separately configured Active Response policy; an alert alone does not prove that an attack was blocked.
Documentation
The following guidance was migrated from the historical wiki and reviewed against the rule definition. Legacy ASL product names and interface instructions refer to the versions documented then. Use the current metadata above and your installed configuration when interpreting thresholds, notification settings and response behavior.

Status
The wiki marked this rule Active at the source revision. Current definition status is shown above.
Description
Grsecurity has detected a segmentation fault on the system.
This rule is a catch all rule that detects when an application has created a segmentation fault on the system. This is not being blocked by ASL, the kernel is only reporting the condition. It can be indicative of an attempt to create a resource denial of service condition, a bug in an application, memory problems with the system, an attack or of a misconfigured application.
False Positives
None. Disabling this rule will not prevent this from occuring, it will simple prevent the system from alerting you that this is occurring on your system.
Tuning Recommendations
None.
